Provider Handbook Updated for 2009
Your Magellan National Provider Handbook has been updated for 2009 and is available on this website.
Please note a number of important updates to the handbook for 2009:
- An expanded list of the “new technologies” Magellan considers investigational (p. 3-15)
- An expansion of our provider Cultural Competency philosophy (p. 4-3)
- A revision of our provider site visit policy (p. 4-12)
- A new formal name for our Regional Network and Credentialing Committees (p. 2-4 and 4-17)
- New information about providers’ ability to correct previously submitted claims (p. 5-3).
Our updated provider handbook appendices include:
- The new 2009 Medical Necessity Criteria in Appendix C (effective October 1, 2008)
- Three new Clinical Practice Guidelines in Appendix E (autism, generalized anxiety disorder and OCD) and updates to several existing guidelines
- An updated list of Magellan-approved claims clearinghouses for provider electronic claims submission in Appendix F
- Significant revisions to our Q&A documents on provider credentialing/re-credentialing in Appendix G.
In addition to the National Provider Handbook, the following Magellan handbook supplements have been recently updated and are available online:

- California
- Advocare® of Tennessee – Medical Necessity Criteria
- Florida Medicaid (including a new supplement for Molina Healthcare)

- Pennsylvania HealthChoices
