Magellan Implements California Language Assistance Regulations
Magellan companies in California will implement the Department of Managed Health Care’s new Language Assistance regulations (SB853) effective Jan. 1, 2009.
These regulations impact:
- How we and you must assist members who prefer to be spoken and written to in a language other than English.
- Our network agreement with you – you will receive an addendum to our agreement that requires you to cooperate and comply with our language assistance program.
- Who can be considered a bilingual provider and/or provide interpretation services.
- Standards for implementing and monitoring the quality of language assistance provided, including an expanded attestation of your ability to provide services in language(s) other than English.
Please consult the California Supplement to our Provider Handbook for specific details on our language assistance program and your role in supporting linguistic access to services.
You may access the handbook and supplement on this website or request a hard copy of our handbook by sending a request to Magellan Health Services, Attn: Network, 14100 Magellan Plaza, Maryland Heights, MO 63043, or faxing us at (314) 387-5951. Please allow six to eight weeks for delivery.
