Magellan of Iowa Encourages Providers to Use Consumer Health Inventory

Magellan Health Services of Iowa invites you to start using the Consumer Health Inventory (CHI) to measure health and recovery outcomes for service recipients. The CHI is a self-assessment tool that measures functional health status, strengths, symptoms, substance use and recovery progress. Providers who use the CHI can immediately obtain a report on the consumer’s progress in treatment. This information can then be used to modify treatment plans and advance the consumer’s recovery. In addition, providers can obtain an aggregate report on health outcomes within their case load and agency.

You can access consumer reports in the My Practice/View Outcomes Reports area of the Magellan provider website following secure sign-in. The instrument takes approximately 10 minutes for the consumer to complete and is administered at intake, during treatment planning and again six months after adults’ initial treatment and three months after for children. Providers can choose to administer the CHI more frequently for treatment planning, if desired.

Helpful resources pertaining to outcomes also are accessible on this website from the “Education” top-menu item, under “Outcomes Library.”

If you or your agency is interested in using the CHI, please contact Melissa Havig, QI specialist, at 1-800-638-8820 ext. 85232. Melissa will provide on-site training for the tool and reporting system, as well as technical support.
