Nebraska Care Management Center Modifies Treatment Record Review for 2008

Nebraska Medicaid and Magellan’s Nebraska Care Management Center have made some modifications to the treatment record review for 2008 to increase the focus on recovery and resiliency, and to emphasize family-centered practice.

Family-centered practice is a strength-based approach to working with individuals and families that is based on a core set of values, beliefs and principles. Family-centered practice recognizes that families can contribute to all aspects of a consumer’s treatment through active participation. This approach is aimed at helping individuals meet their needs while remaining in their homes whenever possible.

The treatment record review now features additional assessment standards to evaluate evidence that individuals and families are actively engaged in the planning process through identification of their strengths, outcomes and strategies for unmet needs. Provider treatment plans are expected to encompass cultural competence and awareness, and encourage guidance to available community supports.

New standards on the form address consumer choice, direction and control by consumers and their families. This approach allows the consumers or families to drive the planning process and focuses on their priorities by building on consumers’ strengths to achieve outcomes that are important to them and that reflect their values, culture and preferences.

If you have any questions about these additional assessment standards, please call 1-800-424-0333 or send an e-mail to the Quality Improvement clinical reviewer at VBBlattert@MagellanHealth.com.
