Recovery Conference and Recognition Event Held
On April 8, our Lehigh Valley Care Management Center recognized seven area residents at its first provider and consumer recognition event for Lehigh and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania.
The awards ceremony, which took place in conjunction with an all-day recovery training conference, was attended by more than 150 local network providers, consumers and county representatives. Russ Petrella, president of our behavioral health division, was the master of ceremonies and presented individual “Star of Excellence Awards,” including:
- Physician of the Year—Dr. Laurence Karper, vice chair, Department of Psychiatry, Lehigh Valley Hospital
- Therapist of the Year—Tonya Marstellar, behavioral specialist consultant, KidsPeace National Centers, Inc.
- Case Manager of the Year—Jeanette Rex, case manager, Haven House
- Shining Star—Angela Heaps, executive secretary, Recovery Partnerships
- Adult Peer Leadership—Donna Keutmann, coordinator of Northampton County Drop-in Center and Peer Mentor Pair Program
- Prompting Resiliency in Children—Cynthia Mota, autism resiliency coach, Autism Self-Directed Care Project at Northwestern Human Services.
“This is all about celebrating successes,” said Petrella. “It’s an honor to recognize the consumers and providers in Magellan’s network who are committed to outstanding service and dedicated to promoting recovery and resiliency—a model of care that we firmly believe can significantly improve participants’ quality of life.”
In addition to the individuals above, Haven House, a psychiatric rehabilitation provider in Allentown, Penn., received a Star of Excellence award for the “Most Innovative Program.” In 2006, Haven House was the first provider in the Lehigh Valley area to transition its sub-acute partial hospital program into a psychiatric rehabilitation program—a demonstration of its pledge to advance recovery and resiliency.
We were pleased to plan this event in collaboration with customers Lehigh and Northampton counties to recognize our community providers and consumers. Congratulations to award winners, and thanks to all who participated.
