Members completing Magellan Condition Care Management have reported compelling clinical results. Using the nationally recognized assessment tools, the SF-12® Health Survey and the PHQ-9:
- 87 percent reported a reduction in their depression symptoms
- 83 percent reported an improvement in their overall level of functioning by 44 percent
- 90 percent reduced absenteeism by 50 percent.
In addition, 97 percent of members reported that, overall, they were pleased with the program and would recommend it to others.
Magellan Condition Care Management works in collaboration with the provider’s treatment plan to improve the member’s clinical outcomes. Bo Ciaverelli, MD, vice president of medical services and Magellan medical director for CareFirst, National AfterHours and Condition Care Management, elaborated, “Our coaches help members increase their knowledge and insight of their behavioral health condition as well as develop positive behavior changes that allow them to better self-manage their symptoms. Working in tandem with providers, we can help members improve their overall health and productivity.”
A supplemental program offered by some of Magellan’s health plan and employer clients, Magellan Condition Care Management supports the provider’s treatment plan by offering members tools and resources to help them:
- Better self-manage a behavioral health condition
- Reduce complications or exacerbations as a result of a behavioral health condition
- Address behavioral health concerns that lead to better medication adherence and treatment compliance of a chronic medical condition.
“Our goal is to support the quality of care rendered by providers through helping members improve their overall health and the quality of their life,” said Ciaverelli.
