Cultural Competency Efforts Executed in 2007
Magellan is committed to providing effective services that incorporate the cultural beliefs, values, and worldviews of all individuals seeking services. Cultural competence, or providing care that meets one’s unique cultural needs, is essential to the delivery of effective and responsive care.
Here are some of the trainings Magellan Behavioral Health of Pennsylvania co-sponsored with our contracted Counties in 2007 to promote cultural competency within our provider network and other service systems:
Intercultural Family Services presented three programs for Delaware County providers and other service systems – Social Service Delivery “The Asian Perspective” in April 2007, Behavioral Health and Social Service Issues “The African-American Perspective” in May 2007, and Social Service Delivery “The Latino/Hispanic Perspective” in August 2007.
Dr. Miriam Delphin (consultant to Magellan, from Yale University School of Medicine) presented an interactive workshop, “An Introduction to Cultural Competency,” in August 2007 for Lehigh and Northampton counties' providers and County representatives.
Dr. Delphin also presented the workshop on Dec. 12, 2007 for Bucks County’s ICSI/CASSP Coordination Council and on Dec. 13, 2007 for Bucks County providers.
You can find information on cultural competency, including assessment tools, guidelines, standards, and resources, on this website, www.MagellanHealth.com/provider, by choosing “Cultural Competency” from the “Education” top-menu item.
