Magellan Seeking Physicians to Accept Referrals for Office-Based Opioid Treatment
With data supporting increased opioid addiction and an increased need for treatment, Magellan continues to emphasize use of office-based medication assisted treatment for individuals who are appropriate candidates. While many members seek such treatment, we frequently have difficulty finding physicians to accept referrals for office-based opioid treatment (OBOT).
Magellan’s provider network consists of hundreds of physicians who have received Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) or Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) waivers to prescribe and use office-based medication assisted treatment for opioid dependence. However, some providers appear reluctant to engage these patients in an outpatient office setting. In order to help you address the barriers to providing treatment, we developed an OBOT provider resource kit. In addition, Magellan Medical Director Robert Ciaverelli, M.D., is on-call to provide consultation and assistance with treatment-related issues. You may reach him at 410-953-2043 or at RCiaverelli@MagellanHealth.com.
