Magellan recently approved the adoption of an obesity clinical practice guideline, as well as text revisions to the Magellan introduction to the depression guideline. These clinical practice guidelines serve as the evidence-based framework for practitioners’ clinical decision-making for the treatment of patients with those conditions.
On January 6, 2010, Magellan implemented an updated Treatment Request Form (TRF) as part of our targeted case management program enhancements.
Magellan has revised its 2010 Medical Necessity Criteria (MNC) to include a new level of care for 23-hour observation.
We review our MNC in its entirety annually, and update as needed to incorporate research findings and expert opinion in the behavioral health field. The MNC Task Force, a multi-disciplinary team of senior clinical leaders with broad experience from across our company, conducts an ongoing review of the criteria as well, and we release updates as needed.
