Clinical Practice Guidelines

Magellan has adopted a number of clinical practice guidelines to assist providers in the assessment of treatment of disorders commonly occurring among Magellan members. Prior to the adoption of each guideline, the relevant scientific literature is reviewed by a multi-disciplinary panel that includes Board-certified psychiatrists, with input from providers in Magellan’s clinical network and from consumers and community agencies. Magellan reviews adopted guidelines at least every two years and provides updates as necessary. Providers are encouraged to read Magellan’s Provider Focus online newsletter and to review Magellan’s Clinical Practice Guidelines pages periodically to learn about updates to the guidelines. As with clinical guidelines in general, Magellan’s adopted guidelines are intended to augment, not replace, sound clinical judgment.
