Q Does Magellan have an online claim submission application?
A Yes, Magellan is now offering Claims Courier, a browser-based online claim submission application for professional services. Professional services include those services typically billed using a CMS-1500 form.
Q How do I submit a claim online?
A Select "Submit a Claim Online" from the left hand menu on the MyPractice page. To create a brand new claim, select "Create a New, Blank Claim." The online claim form similar to the CMS-1500 will appear and prompt you for required information. Required information fields are indicated with an asterisk. You may enter up to a total of six (6) lines on a single electronic claim as long as the visits are for the same member/patient and provider.
Q What are the benefits of using the online professional claims submission application?
A Electronic claim filing is more efficient and cost-effective. You no longer have to keep track of or file paper claims, and you receive confirmation of receipt within one day of filing the claim. Best of all, filing online claims using the browser-based Claims Courier application is free to our contracted and credentialed providers who have signed and returned a Magellan provider User Agreement.
Q What type of claims may be submitted using the online claims submission application?
A Services billed on a professional claim form, CMS-1500, for benefit plans in which Magellan is the claims payer can be submitted online using the "Submit a Claim Online" application. Institutional claims submitted on a UB-04 form and EAP claims cannot be submitted online at this time.
EAP claims require an EASI Form, which is mailed to the provider in an information package when a referral is made. If you need to obtain an EASI Form, please contact the member service number on the member's benefit card or visit the EAP Forms page of the Magellan provider website.
Q Are there claims that cannot be submitted using the online professional claims submission application?
A Yes, Institutional claims for services normally submitted on a UB-04 form and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) claims cannot be billed using the online claims submission application. EAP claims still require the submission of a standard EASI Form and institutional claims require additional information not currently available in Claims Courier, which is the online professional claims submission application. Also, if Magellan is not the claim payer, claims cannot be submitted online using the “Submit a Claim Online” application.
Q Is there a charge to submit claims through Magellan's online professional claims submission application?
A No, this service is offered free of charge to Magellan providers who have signed and returned a Magellan provider User Agreement.
Q Is there something I have to load on my computer to use the online professional claims submission application?
A No, online claims submission is a browser-based application. You will only need to launch your Internet browser and log on to the Magellan provider Web site using your secure login and password.
Tip: The Online Claims Submission Application works best when using Internet Explorer (IE). If you use a browser other than IE, your results may be less than satisfactory. If IE is not already loaded on your computer, you can download it free of charge from the Web at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx. You can indicate IE to be your default browser or you can choose to use IE only when you access the Magellan website.
