What data are currently available through View Authorizations?

Through View Authorizations, you are able to view up to 12 months of authorization determinations issued to you or your practice for behavioral health or substance abuse services.

When Magellan is required to authorize to a practitioner within a group rather than to the group practice, authorizations to the specific practitioner may not be viewable by other group users. This is also true for provider organizations.

You are able to view and print authorization letters online.  To access an authorization letter, find the appropriate authorization and click on the View Letter link that appears to the right of your authorization information.

Instructions for Use

  • Select the appropriate Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) from the drop-down menu. (NOTE: the drop-down menu option appears only if you have access to more than one provider practice.)
  • Begin your search by using one of the following options. Using more than one search option will narrow your search.
    • Authorization Number
    • Member/Patient Information
    • Date Range
  • The default sort is Member/Patient Name. If you choose, you may modify your sort preferences by:
    • Authorization Start Date
    • Authorization Number
    • Decision Date
  • You have three options for viewing authorization information.
    • View Summary – This option simply displays your search results on the screen. From the Authorization Summary page you can:
      • Initiate a new search
      • View details of a specific item in the Authorization Summary using the "View Details" link
    • Create Detailed Report – This option will display your results in portable data file (PDF) format. You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer for this option to work. You can then save or print your report from the PDF window.
    • Download Electronic File – This option allows you to open or save your search results in a Microsoft Excel file. You will need to have MS Excel installed on your computer for this option to work.
  • Click the SUBMIT button.

Helpful Information

What is an MIS Number?
An MIS number is the number with which Magellan uniquely identifies a contracted network provider. Magellan assigns MIS numbers to individual practitioners, group practices, and organizations.

Does View Authorizations take the place of my Authorization Letter?
No. Magellan's authorization letter to you is Magellan's notification of its authorization decision.

Why doesn't the authorization I am looking for appear in View Authorizations?
There are several possible explanations:

  • Your authorization request is still in process.
  • For group practices or organizations, the authorization was made to an individual provider in order to meet customer requirements.
  • The Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) that matches your login does not match the TIN for which you requested the authorization.

Why doesn’t the authorization letter I am looking for appear in View Authorizations?
There are several possible explanations:

  • Your authorization may have been approved prior to 2/21/2007, in which case it will not be viewable online.
  • The process that loads the letters has not completed.
  • Your authorization was processed on a Magellan system not yet accessible to View Authorizations.

What if I still cannot find my authorization or letter or if I have questions about the information I am seeing in View Authorizations?
If you are unable to locate a specific authorization, please see our FAQ page for common questions, submit a Secure Message, or call the telephone number on the member's benefit card or in the authorization of care letter you received.
